I am the remainder of a fly-swatting nation, and I live in the sleepiest square hollow of the city. The polynomial that made us was terribly big, it dates back to the Ice Age, and I'm not very good at history.

She smiles and peddles her heart to the homeless people in the slums, and they eat the flesh like it is a succulent trout, tender and beatific all at once. They close their eyes, wipe their mouths with their filthy sleeves and think of a time where hearts were everywhere on the street -
The setting sun fills the sky as they eat, crisp and golden like falling dollar notes. A siren howls somewhere along 67th Street, long and painful.
Soon it is dark, and they bury her body beneath a bridge.
